Hiking in Valais, 8000 km of hiking trails

Where can you find the largest glacier in Central Europe? Right here: in the Valais region. It has no less than 8,000 km of hiking trails. When hiking in Valais and traveling to switzerland, we are spoiled!

But back to our 23 km glacier, Aletsch, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To admire it, you just have to trudge a little. The hike on the Grand Glacier route offers grandiose panoramas on this giant of ice. On the way, we love to indulge in a wood-fired apple pie from the Gletscherstube mountain restaurant.

To discover one of the most beautiful valleys in Valais, we go for a walk in the Val d’Hérens, which stretches from the Rhône Valley to the foot of the famous Dent Blanche (4,357 m), the Dent d’Hérens, Mont Collon and Mont Blanc de Cheilon. 500 km of hiking trails take us through exceptional landscapes, mixing mountain pastures, forests and glaciers. Small villages, with typical wooden houses such as Evolène, Haudères and Arolla, are the starting point for many hikes. We love hiking in Valais and traveling to switzerland.

It is also in the Valais region that the famous resort of Zermatt is located, at the foot of the Matterhorn mountain, its symbol, right on the border with Italy. It is in fact the most photographed summit in the world. We also want our shot! To do this, we take one of the most beautiful circuits the region has to offer: the Zermatt Lakes Trail. It passes in turn through the Stellisee, the Grindjisee, the Grünsee, before reaching the moraine of the Findelen glacier and the Riffel mountain pasture. Hiking in Valais and traveling to switzerland can be done with friends and family.

When passing through the area, don’t forget to take a look at the pyramids of Euseigne, funny rocky formations topped with rocks. About ten meters high, they were born from erosion.

Among the other curiosities of the region, there are the suspension bridges, to say the least dizzying. The most recent, baptized “Goms Bridge” was installed in 2015. 280 m long, it crosses the Rhône (Rotten, in German), 92 m lower… It links Fürgangen to Mühlebach, a village in the oldest heart of village in Switzerland, with remarkable wooden constructions. Hoping you will love hiking in Valais and traveling to switzerland.
